iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch users:
You can change the picture (avatar) shown when you send messages via iMessage by adding a contact for yourself.
Simply go into Contacts, add a new entry with your phone number and/or e-mail and choose a picture to use.

This does not work for me! All of a sudden some picture of my mom is showing up for my iMessage avatar on my iPad, but that’s not my contact picture for myself or anything. I have no idea how it happened because I have my own apple ID and everything. Totally random.

Did you do the above mentioned process of adding a contact for yourself?
If you already did – check your contacts to see if there is another contact with your phone number and your mother’s picture assigned to it. That may be what is happening.

Ok…now don’t laugh!! I’m the Mom who’s dtr just left for college, and I get the iPad finall!! Wasn’t it mine to begin with? Haha…oh well, how can I go into contacts to put my email and subsequently change the pic from hers to little ole me?? Not laughing, are you?? Thanks, Debbi
Hello Debbi,
You can find the “Contacts” application on your iPad’s home screen. It looks like a little brown address book with a figure of a person in the center. When you open it, tap on the white “plus” sign on the top right corner of the screen. Enter your name and information, making sure that the phone number you enter is the one you are using for iMessage. Then tap on “add photo” to add your picture. Tap “Done” when you are finished.
