About
I've spent 18 years writing production code. The last two have been entirely about AI.
I'm Armando J. Perez-Carreno, principal engineer and founder of PerezCarreno & Coindreau. I work the way an Anthropic or OpenAI forward-deployed engineer works, at a scale that makes sense for small and medium businesses.

How I got here
I started PerezCarreno & Coindreau in 2008. The work has evolved over almost two decades, but the spine of it hasn't. The job has always been the same: sit with the people who actually do the work, learn what's breaking, and build the technology that fixes it.
For most of the agency's history, that meant web applications, ecommerce platforms, and learning management systems. I shipped LMS work for companies that trained tens of thousands of professionals. I built ecommerce systems that processed millions of dollars in transactions. I ran Facebook ads bootcamps for entrepreneurs across Latin America and co-authored a Spanish-language book on Facebook advertising. I co-founded AcademiaAds. I worked with IBM, GoDaddy, FEMSA, Entel, and dozens of smaller businesses I cared about just as much.
In 2023 we started shifting toward automation and AI, and now agentic engineering. The reason is simple. Most of the businesses I'd worked with for fifteen years had the same problem, and AI was the first technology I'd ever seen that could actually solve it. The problem wasn't lack of strategy or lack of effort. It was that the most valuable people in the company were spending most of their time on work that didn't require a person at all.
I'm still the same engineer. The work just got more interesting.
How I actually work
Three things define every engagement.
I sit with the people closest to the work. Not just your executives. The receptionist who picks up the phone forty times a day. The technician writing the same estimate over and over. The office manager copying data between five different systems. They know where time disappears in a shift and what good service actually requires. The system I build is shaped around their knowledge.
I build the actual system, end to end. The discovery, the architecture, the build, and the rollout are all me. There's no handoff to a junior team. The person who hears your problem in week one is the person writing the code in week six.
I train your team to run it on their own. The goal is your team owning the system. You won't need me forever, and that's the point. If you come back, it should be because you want to build the next thing, not because you're stuck on a retainer.
Outside the engagements
I host The Web Talk Show, a podcast and livestream about AI and business. I speak at industry events about AI in the trades, in the shop, and in service businesses. I live in San Antonio, Texas with my wife Giselle and our kids. We work on community projects together, including a family-friendly local directory for our city.
I write about AI on this site and on LinkedIn.
